As wastewater leaves, a hose runs upward from the dishwasher out to the air gap. The water flows through the air gap through the first tube and into the second tube. The waste is disposed of in a garbage disposer or directly discharged into a drainage system.
Under your countertop, you will find both branches of the dishwasher air gap. The heading will be visible above the counter surface near the faucet or soap dispenser. In the heading, there is a description of the actual air gap. The holes in this fixture section allow water to flow into the sink if the tubing or drain becomes blocked. 3. Air Gap Clogged
The obstruction is likely caused by debris if the improper installation has been ruled out. There are a couple of different methods for achieving this.
After removing the air gap cover, you will need a paper towel roll to fill the gap. The paper towel tube should be placed over the hose openings and blown into the gap. If the food particles are stuck, this can help dislodge them.
If that doesn’t work, use a long-handled bottle brush to loosen the food particles. A plumber may have to snake the drain lines in the worst-case scenario.
